The problem is that Liberal politicians or leaders are 'nice people', in that they respect others points of view and their own internal code of honour.
They will almost certainly encounter those that do not subscribe to such an ethical stance; if not in their own government then certainly in world politics.
If the liberal does not lie, does not cheat, does not misrepresent, always meets half way in heated discussion, then surely liberal politicians will all ways fail to get liberal outcomes for the population.
